Quilt for a Friend

I saw a pinwheel quilt pattern I thought was really cute. Link to inspiration quilt. I had some a charm pack, Lily's Garden Spice so I got started on this quilt with no one in mind for who it would be for.
I love pinwheels and I love making them.  Something so satisfying when they come together perfect.
For the back, I made a jelly roll run for the jelly roll from the same fabric
I love the bright colors and how this turned out.  I sent it to it's new home on Galveston Island at the home of one of my oldest friends, Je Layne.  We've known each other since we were little bitty.  Our mothers worked together and were great friends.  I have spent much time at their home when I was a kid.
Pictures of this quilt were taken by my friend Penny Raymer.

A couple fall runners

Ethan and Bryan's green, fishin', deer quilts

I started asking my grand boys what they would like for their quilts.  Ethan and Bryan both love to fish.  Ethan also said he liked green.  Bryan said he thought some deer on there would be pretty cool too.  Great, maye I can use the same fabric for both quilts.  I looked at a bigillion pictures of fabric on the 'net.  I found RJR Dan Morris Take the bait on e-bay and ordered several yards.

For some reason I can't find any other pictures of Ethan's 4 patch. I used a few other fabrics and some batiks.

I decided to make pinwheels for Bryan.  A friend gave me some old jeans and I found some fabric with deer and used some leftovers for Ethan's 4 patch.  I discovered that I love making pinwheels for some reason.

Jessica's Dresden Plate Quilt

I saw the Dresden Plate patterns on Pinterest (I get in trouble there).  I thought they were beautiful.  I bought a template, and started playing.  I decided to make Jessica's with them on it.  I made different sizes and half plates and used a white sheet for the back ground.

Currently working on.....

I looked at many star patterns and decided to give this one a try.  It uses all HST (half square triangles) with none of the dreaded Y seams on the sides.  I picked up the fabric at Hancocks, 2 fat quarter bundles and 2 or 3 1/2 yard cuts.  They weren't marked with any name or manufacturer.  I love the colors though and may claim this quilt for myself.  I love how this block has pinwheels in the center.  This block is finishing at 12".   I will have 20 total.  The blocks below are on the wall in no certain order.  I will probably put 2 1/2" sashing in between the blocks.

A stack of quilts

Early October 2014 the new grand boy was due.  I knew I would be making a trip home to the Mississippi Gulf Coast to meet him.  I wanted to get as many quilts made as I could to take with me.  I did get quite a few made.

My daughter, Lisa wanted Chevron stripes.  The easiest pattern I found used half square triangles (HST).  This is a great block to learn to make because there are so many quilts that can be made with it.  Dragon fly and zinna flower fabric.

My second grandtwin, Tristen:  I wanted old blue jeans-inspiration quilt here.  I decided to use bandanas also which I bought from Jo Ann's.  Added some patches, used the pockets black cotton backing.

For grand princess, Baleigh-lover of horses and pink.  more HST and a kind of chevron.  I basically made the squares and then arranged them and re-arranged them until I got a pattern I liked

Fabric is Cowgirl up.  Prairie points around the edges.

Then for grand princess Emma.  Purple butterflies.  I also wanted to try my hand at ruffles on this and a simple 9 patch.

At last but not least-the new baby Jaxton's

A simple charm pack rag quilt.

Video: Eric and Cody get their quilts!

Baby quilt

When I first started Quilting I had just found out I was getting a new grand.  I had been watching many Videos on You tube, most from Missouri Star Quilt Company.  They are a great resource for fabric, how to's, patterns and any other supplies you may need.  Here is the quilt I made

I bought one charm pack-42 5" squares from MSQC and followed their tut video.  It's a great 4 part video series that really helps a beginner.

Cody's cowboy quilt

My oldest grand boy, Cody, loves horses.  So I knew I wanted his quilt to be horse or cowboy themed.  I searched high and low for just the right fabric and pattern and finally settled on Cowboy up fabric in a later cake-10" squares and the pattern was found on MSQC you tube channel, Double slice layer cake
I had decided to gradually challenge myself and to learn something new with each quilt.  I backed this quilt with brown flannel and did not do a real good job on the backing.  but I got it finished and Cody likes it.

Eric's Jelly Roll Run Quilt

When I first saw this quilt tut video, I knew I wanted to make it for my son and that I wanted it white, black and red, a combo of colors he likes.  I bought the fabric, pre-cut into 2 1/2" x 40" strips on E-Bay.  Jelly rolls usually have 42 strips in them.  I put black flannel on the back and soon realized that I don't care for working with flannel.  It stretches and crawls and 100% cotton just works so much better for quilts.  I like to use 80/20 cotton batting.  Plenty warm for South Mississippi.  Eric loves it
